For comfort, value and reliability, there’s
never been a better choice than gas.

From furnaces and fireplaces to clothes dryers and outdoor decorative lighting, today’s energy efficient homes are making the most of the abundant, clean and efficient fuel . . . natural gas or propane.

To learn more, just click on an appliance or area in the picture above to begin your tour of gas for your home.

Gas Water Heaters

Your water heater is the second largest contributor to your fuel bill.

Your water heater is the second largest energy user in your home, after the energy required for air conditioning and heating. Water heating normally consumes 15 to 25% of all home energy. Replacing your electric water heater with a gas model means lower energy bills, reliability and more hot water.

In fact, a gas water heater is so much cheaper than electricity, waiting to buy one could be a big mistake. Converting to gas water heating is easy. You won’t pay a lot more to install one, and you can recover the extra cost of conversion quickly because gas models cost less to operate. And, if you do so as you are building your new home, during construction, it is even more cost effective.

You will get more hot water. The average family of four uses up to 24,000 gallons of water each year. Gas water heaters are up to the challenge of being ready when you need them. Gas water heaters recover up to 40 percent faster than electric models. More hot water, faster! You can enjoy your shower and leave plenty of hot water for your loved ones. Or is it the other way around?

Peace of mind. Plenty of hot water. Lower energy bills. You get all that with a high-efficiency gas water heater.

Gas Clothes Drying

Economy plus for the energy conscious. Gas clothes drying – the biggest energy bargain in your home.

Once upon a time, our clothes dried on a clothesline. They came down from the line smelling fresh, but needing to be ironed. Gas dryers are the closest thing to a clothesline available today. They will dry your clothes quickly and for less money than electric models. They also produce less static cling. When a gas dryer turns off, the heat dissipates quickly, reducing the amount of wrinkling.

Today’s gas dryers offer touch controls, digital displays and microcomputer-base temperature settings for sensitive fabrics. Some models signal when the clothes are dry and continue to tumble without heat, allowing you more time to fold the load.

Today’s gas dryers use less energy than older models. No pilot lights are required because the dryers light automatically. You can save money, time, and more . . .as you dry every load of clothes, with your new energy-efficient gas dryer.

Gas Drying is the only way to do laundry! Saves time and money!

Gas Furnace

A high-efficiency gas furnace provides comfort and savings – no matter how cold the outside temperature is. For year-round comfort, team your gas furnace with conventional air conditioning. Get the most for your money and stay warm.

Modern gas furnaces not only use a superior fuel: they are technologically advanced to wrangle as much heat for your dollar as possible. Most new homes are built with a forced-air system using gas, oil, or electricity to generate heat. In fact, most gas-fired equipment is part of a central heat and air condition system.

You can be confident of receiving a high-efficiency furnace when purchasing a new heating system because federal regulations dictate that manufacturers can only offer equipment with AFUE ratings of 78 percent or higher for furnaces. Top-of-the-line furnaces can turn up to 97 cents of your energy dollar into usable heat.

To put it in even simpler terms, if you buy a dollar’s worth of gas and use it in a 65 percent AFUE furnace, only 65 cents worth of usable heat is going into your home. Because home heating takes up so much of your utility bill, it makes sense to have the most efficient equipment you can. So you need to study the cost of each fuel choice in your area to arrive at the best possible energy use plan for your home.

For example, have you heard about the virtues of the electric heat pump! Is it the most energy efficient heat system? Did you know that with an electric heat pump, you need to have a conventional heating system that kicks in when the temperature gets below 40 degrees? That can be expensive, if that backup heating system is electric. Plus, electric heat pumps can’t compete with the comfort – or speed – of gas heating.

Speed is important. Turning down your thermostat at night can save up to 15 percent each year on your heating bill. But, with a heat pump it takes so long to warm up your home, that many systems rely on the backup heating system to kick in. Or, you simply wait.

Gas heat is your home’s foundation for comfort. The quality of your homes heating system equates to the quality of comfort you provide for yourself and your family.

Gas Heating & Water Heating Combo Systems

It you’re thinking about replacing both the furnace and water heater, consider purchasing one of the new "combination heating systems." Using only one gas burner to do two jobs saves money and energy. Combos can provide nearly unlimited amounts of hot water because a smaller tank of hot water is heated with the high-energy output of the furnace. You get hot water and hot air. Combos tie into the force-air system of the home's central heat and air system.

Gas Space Heaters, Wall Heaters & Garage Heaters

Gas space heaters are relatively inexpensive to install and provide heat only when and where it’s needed. Gas space heaters are ideal for areas such as additions, workshops, garages, guesthouses and summer rooms.

Many wall space heaters can be installed flush against a wall. There are models that have electronic ignition and thermostatic controls that maintain the temperature automatically.

Close relatives of the space heater are infrared garage heaters. You can work in your garage year-round because gas infrared garage heaters warm the surrounding area with radiant heat. They can be mounted on a wall and some models require no electricity. Garage heaters are fuel-efficient and operate for just pennies per day.

Gas Fireplaces & Firelogs

Enjoy the warmth and beauty of an efficient gas fireplace for only pennies an hour.

If you have a gas fireplace, all you have to do is flick a switch. Forget about the wood: buying it, stacking it, carrying it, lighting it, and cleaning up after it! Face it! With a wood fire, often it’s simply too much trouble.

The answer, of course, is gas. With gas, you get a roaring fire – instantly. Gas hearth products are convenient, safe, cleaner burning and – above all – authentically beautiful. If you can’t relax and enjoy the beauty of licking flames and glowing embers, what’s the point?

Gas fireplaces, freestanding stoves and decorative log sets give you all the pleasure of a beautiful wood fire – without the hassle.

You never have to leave a fire burning when you go to bed or leave your home. Your carpet will never be marred by popping embers or sparks. There is no creosote buildup or worry of a chimney fire. And you never have to clean up ash.

Gas costs you less, on average, than purchased firewood. The cost of operating a gas fireplace ranges between 12 and 15 cents per hour. Gas hearth products add value to a home. Today, family and living room fireplaces have become a "must have" in new home construction.

Gas fireplaces and stoves can be installed almost anywhere in a home. You don’t have to have a chimney. Free-standing models can be vented directly outside, when place on an outside wall. Vent-free models give you even more freedom of placement

Fireplace Inserts

A fireplace insert offers the perfect way to turn an inefficient heat-stealing fireplace into an efficient, supplemental home-heating device. Inserts can be installed in almost any existing masonry fireplace.

Inserts aren’t just about heat; they are also about elegance. You can select a mantel or surrounding trim to set off your new fireplace as a focus of your living area. Because they are more efficient than decorative gas logs, gas fireplace inserts can cost about one-third less to operate. They can be turned on with a switch, a remote control, or automatically, with a wall-mounted thermostat.

Decorative Log Sets

Gas logs are the most simple and least expensive of gas hearth products. But, because they are not airtight and the flame is not sealed from the living space, they are classified as decorative, not heating devices.

A log set fits into an existing fireplace and uses the flue for exhaust. Log sets are realistic-looking ceramic or concrete logs that simulate various types of wood. Some models allow you to adjust the flame. Normally, gas logs turn on and off with a knob. Most gas log sets can be used in the event of an electrical outage.

Log sets are not rated for energy efficiency. However, because you can control the burn rate, less warm air escapes up the chimney. Ask your gas hearth product dealer about the Btu – or heat – output of different log sets. Finding the most realistic flame with the lowest Btu rating will give you a better-looking fire for the lowest operating cost.

Whether you purchase a gas fireplace, fireplace insert, freestanding stove or decorative log, you are treating yourself and your family to the instant beauty of a glowing fire.

Standby Generator

Standby generators give customers an opportunity to continue their normal, daily activities during the occasional electric utility outage. Gas generators used as a backup to your home's primary electric source can resume your home's power in ten to fifteen seconds. Your home security system, water pump, and garage door opener are a few basic home devices that would not work during a power interruption. Central Florida gas can work with you to size and install the appropriate size generator to provide you and your family the necessary power during emergencies.

Gas Yard Lights

Gas lighting harkens back to a more romantic age. In fact, many gas companies began by providing gaslight service. While outdoor gaslights add a distinctive, decorative flair to any home, modern gaslights have many fuel-saving features that help enhance operation and your security.

Just for pennies per day, you can use gaslights to illuminate darkened areas around your home with the brilliance of a 100-watt light bulb. But, unlike electric light bulbs, they won’t attract insects. Gaslights can be mounted on posts for yard patio and front yard installations. They can be wall mounted for entryways and garages.

Gas Grills

Outdoor cooking at its best. Today's Gas grills have more features and options than ever. These include separate-cooking areas with separate control, warming and baking racks. There's also the convenience of never running out as most of us have done when using propane or charcoal. Connecting and disconnecting a gas grill is easy with the new "quick disconnect" option.

But what about cost? Gas is still the best solution. Gas allows you to cook great-tasting meals for about 17¢ per hour compared to about $1.10 with charcoal.

Gas grills complement today's busy lifestyles by eliminating the long warm-up time associated with charcoal and the inconvenience of refilling propane tanks. And, you also have greater flexibility because you control the cooking temperature.

Gas grills vary in price based on the level of quality you desire and the features that best fit your grilling needs. The range begins at about $200 and can top $6,000 for fully equipped, deluxe models.

Gas Pool & Spa Heaters

There are approximately 800,000 swimming pools including above-ground (and growing daily) in Florida, and most of them must be heated during the cooler months to maintain comfortable swimming conditions. An unheated pool will stay generally at about the average outdoor temperature. For the typical user, comfortable pool water temperatures are 78°F to 82°F in spring and fall and 76°F to 78°F in winter. Spa temperatures can average near or over 100°F, depending on the user.

Average yearly cost for heating a residential pool in Florida using an electrical resistance pool heater is about 2.5 times the cost of using a gas pool heater. Spa heaters run about the same.

The greatest loss of heat from a pool or spa occurs from its surface because of evaporation. By reducing this evaporation loss, pool covers are very effective in lengthening the swimming season. They also keep the pool clean, thereby lowering the cost of chemicals and filter maintenance. Depending on materials and the number of hours of use, temperature increases of 5°F to 10°F may be expected from a pool cover.

Pool covers will last from three to five years, depending on care in handling and storage. Nevertheless, they are your best buy for an extended swimming season. From the standpoint of energy conservation, a pool cover should be used.

Gas Patio Heater

Enjoy outdoor living no matter how cold it gets with a warm, inviting gas patio heater. Now you can have the warmth and ambiance of your indoor fireplace with you when you head outside. Even in the warmest parts of the U.S., an outdoor fire is a welcome ally in dispelling the chill of the nighttime air. In the cooler parts of the county, there is the added benefit of being able to extend the outdoor season, both in spring and in fall.

Gas –both natural and LP – has been fueling this trend. The fire goes on at the touch of a button, and off just as easily, once your party has moved indoors. There’s no mess, no fuss, no smoldering embers left. Just warmth and the magic of a campfire.

Gas Ranges

Gas ranges are a practical marriage of a cooktop and a range and can be accommodated easily in any kitchen, large or small.

Slide-in ranges fit standard counter depths and conventional range depths (24-inches deep by 30-inches wide) along with drop-in models that fit into base cabinets, providing a built-in look. Models also come in 36, 48, and 72-inch widths, which allows for the addition of extra burners and larger ovens.

Gas Cooktops

Nothing gives you precision control like a gas cooktop. From gently heating a delicate sauce to boiling a big pot of water – today’s models deliver the precise heat you need. Instant temperature change, unlike the cool-down time you will experience with the new ceramic electrical models. And there is a dizzying array of mix-and-match cooktop features; different-sized burners, power burners, grills and wok rings, griddles, steamers and even deep-fryers.

A kitchen designed around an island perfectly accommodates a cooktop. You will also find cooktop drop-in models that fit into base cabinets, which creates more storage space in a smaller kitchen.

Gas Ovens

Nothing bakes, boils and bastes like a gas oven. Gas heat has more moisture than electric, which can provide better quality baking. Also, gas ovens offer the precise heat that cooktops offer. Standard temperature swings on conventional ovens are as much as 25-to-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Gas ovens cool by only 10 degrees Fahrenheit before heating up again.

Gas broiling is virtually smokeless. The splatter goes up into the flame and is consumed, so you can broil with the door shut. That can be a lifesaver in the summer because it reduces the amount of heat in your kitchen.

Self-cleaning ovens are a practical option for the homeowner in a hurry. The gas heat in the self-cleaning feature maintains your oven’s cleanliness safely and easily.

It doesn’t matter what your kitchen setup is, there’s a gas oven suitable for it. Ovens come in 24-, 27-, and 30-inch widths, and in single or double oven configurations. Gas ovens come in radiant-heat or convection models. Radiant heat provides a steady heat that is ideal for baking and broiling. It heats the food, not just the air surrounding it, and locks in the juices and nutrients. Fan-forced convection ovens circulate hot air around the food for even heating and browning at lower temperatures.
