Answers:

Q. I have a four prong receptacle for a dryer in my home, but my dryer has a three prong cord.  Is there an adapter?

A.

There is no adapter available to adapt a three prong cord to a four prong cord. However, a four prong cord can easily be installed to your dryer.  Ask our sales people for instructions.

If your home has only a 125 volt outlet, a new 230 volt outlet must be installed to accommodate most electric dryers.   When the voltage is cut by half, the wattage is cut by 3/4.  If you could rewire your dryer from 230 volts to 125 volts, it would take about four hours to dry a load of clothes.

Q. My Microwave quit working.  What's  wrong with it?

A.  It may have just blown its fuse.  On most Microwaves, the fuse is located under the outer  cover.   DANGER!!!  Also under this cover is a high voltage capacitor that stores enough electricity to injure or even kill.  You should seek professional help.  DANGER!!!

Q. My Washer is leaking, is this serious?

A. Yes, if your Whirlpool or Kenmore Washer is leaking water on the floor, don't wait too long to have it repaired.   If the pump is leaking, it is quite likely that it is leaking on the motor.   Have it repaired now and save the cost of a new motor.

Q. I just got my dishwasher and it leaves water in the bottom after it's finished running.  Is this normal?

A.  No.  Check your drain hose to make sure it is not crimped.  On Older installations, there may be glass in the pump.  All dish washers are designed to drain completely at the end of each cycle.

Q. One of the top elements on my stove gets red hot on every setting, is this normal?

A.  No.  The control switch is bad and should be replaced.

Q. Why does my top element work sometimes and not other times?

A. Check where the element plugs into the receptacle for a loose connection. If the connection on the element seems tight, call for service.

Q. I can hear the motor on my dryer running, but the tub doesn't turn.

A. This sounds like a broken belt.  Make sure the tub turns freely by hand before replacing the belt.   Sometimes, roller or bearing problems caused the belt to break.

Q. My Dryer takes twice as long to dry clothes as it used to.  What's the matter with it?

A. Normally this problem is caused by a congested dryer - full of lint.  Even if you clean the filter after every load, some of the lint gets past the filter into the air flow.  This lint can cover the operating thermostat stopping it from cycling the element.  When this happens, the element cycles on the safety thermostat which has a lot longer cycle time than the operating thermostat.  If unattended, this lint can get into the motor and cause it to overheat and even burn out.  The air flow and vent must be clear of lint for the dryer to work properly.

Q. I cleaned all the lint out of my dryer, but I still get long drying times, What else could it be?

A. If you have either an unusally long duct run (20 ft or more), or more than a few elbows in the duct piping, airflow may be restricted, causing lint buildup inside the duct. The duct and dryer both need to be cleared of all lint by a service technician.

Q. I think I smell Carbon Monoxide.  How can I be sure?

A. You can't smell Carbon Monoxide.  It is an odorless and tasteless gas.  If you suspect Carbon Monoxide in your home, have it checked.  Most heat and air contractors have meters that can detect even small levels of Carbon Monoxide.  We carry inexpensive passive detectors that you can install yourself.

Q. What kind of paint should I use on my stove top?

A. Sorry, your stove top is porcelain coated or brushed chrome and can not be painted.  Give us your brand and model number, we may have, or can get, a replacement top.
